Joel Labi joins GRACosway
GRACosway welcomes former political media advisor, journalist and news anchor Joel Labi as our newest Director – Corporate and Financial Communications.
A seasoned media and communications professional, Joel brings to the firm more than 15 years’ experience across journalism, politics, international business and the private sector. Clients and colleagues will benefit from his expansive strategic communications knowledge and expertise, as well as his broad networks across media and government.
Joel most recently served as a Media Adviser to a Federal Treasurer and was part of the team responsible for navigating the economy through the COVID-19 pandemic. Joel worked on two Federal Budgets, numerous COVID-19 related matters and significant legislative reforms, including those relating to the News Media Bargaining Code, superannuation, and digital payments covering cryptocurrency, BNPL and Digital Wallets.
Prior to his time in politics, Joel built a highly regarded career in the media and as a journalist in Australia and abroad. He was a news anchor at Sydney radio station 2GB before working as a producer and reporting on air for CNN International in the US and Hong Kong, and then eventually taking up a role as an anchor and Asia correspondent for Reuters.
Joel’s experience also extends to the private sector, having previously led the communications functions for international companies operating in highly regulated industries, including a venture capital firm in Hong Kong, a listed US cannabis distribution company, and a cyber security firm operating in the Middle East.
During this time, Joel worked to develop and implement communications strategies, sharpening his proficiencies in media relations, profile-raising, reputation management, issues and crisis management, internal communications and media training. In addition, he assisted to prepare and deliver pre-IPO communications strategies, investor relations programs, and support for listed companies.
